Wondering which European city is suitable for a 48 hours visit? Reykjavik is the perfect city to get incredible lifetime trip memories. In this itinerary plan you will get some inspiration for how to spend two amazing day in Iceland’s Capital.

DAY ONE

The first day in Reykjavik could start from some few touristic landmarks.

The Sun Voyager sculpture

First of all, the Sun Voyager: a Viking ship sculpture that you can admire after a short walk along the shore boulevard.

Sun Voyager - Reykjavik first day itinerary

From the shore boulveard you can have a pleasable view of the city skyline as well. A short walk far from the Sun Voyager, you can also see the Shore Piece. It consists in large polished rocks integrated into the breakwater. Although it is easy to walk without noticing it, most of the people are pleasantly surprised when passing the polished rocks and notice this shining part. In fact, often the rocks seem like shining and display more colors than the surrounding shore.

Hallgrimskirja – Church

The greatest landmark of Reykjavic that you can admire the first day of your trip is Hallgrímskirkja.

This is a church which resembles a mountain with trap rocks. You will be surprised by the modern outer appearence of the church, yet the inside is sober. When visiting the church go up in the tower to enjoy the beautiful views on Reykjavik, the harbor and the coast.

Downtown

Complete your day one visit with a stroll in Downtown: there are a lot of unique locals or brewers to rest for a while and enjoying some Iceland tipical dishes.

Harpa concert hall

Furthermore, the Harpa worths a visit. This building is the concert hall and conference center complex situated right along the harbor. Harpa has an impressive architectural design both inside and out. Great thing: it is open to the public even when there is not an event taking place! So be sure to stop by.

DAY TWO

The Golden Circle

Let’s continue our trip from the Golden Circle. The Golden Circle tour will take you to a few of the cannot miss natural wonders on the island.

You will see the Great Geysir and Strokkur geyser, which erupts every 5-10 minutes. Therefore, waiting on the eruption is worth your time.

Geyser wonders in Reykjavik itinerary

In addition, you will have the chance to see the incredible Gullfoss waterfall. The tour wraps up at Þingvellir National Park, where you can see the continental drift between the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates. This site is also the place where the ancient Icelandic Parliament – from 930 AD to 1798 – which is the oldest parliament in the world.

Still remaining in the Golden Circle, another must see wonder is the Gullfoss Waterfall. This is one of the most popular waterfalls in Iceland and also easily reachable. The waterfall is situated in the White River Hvítá, a glacial river.

Finally, as end day trip could be the visit to the little town Vik. The town is lovely to stroll through, but the reason for coming here is to visit the black sand beach, which is special to walk over.

Utimately, anoher attraction is the Reynisdrangar. These are 66 Meter high basalt rocks that stand in the sea.

Your Day in Dijon

Capital of Burgundy, Dijon is the perfect gateway to the wine country. But the city itself warrants at least a day of visit. It takes only 1 hour and 40 minutes to go there by high-speed train from Paris. Though the railways station is an extremely ugly concrete building, you are only a few minutes by walk from the historic center. A large part of the downtown is reserved for pedestrians, here are the main landmark buildings you should not miss: the Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne is a complex whose parts have been built at different times. What to do in La Paz, at the top of the Andes

Although Sucre is legally the capital of Bolivia, La Paz has hosted the government seat since 1898 and is the most important city in the country. Established at the top of the Andes mountain range, at 3700 meters of altitude, it is a very peculiar city, with problems and very unique attractions due to its climate, its geography and, of course, its welcoming people. When traveling to Bolivia, pay close attention to the roads, as most are on the slopes of the mountains and can look very dangerous, and they really are. Right from the start is the tip of

Mawlamyine, a Window of the Past

I arrived in Mawlamyine by a night train from Yangon. As no beds are available on this line, I was in the upper-class, with large comfortable seats (the deco is quite old-fashioned). Price changes from time to time but you can expect to pay around 5 dollars for the trip. You can buy tickets for the same day directly at Yangon Railway Station, or from 3 days in advance at the Myanmar Railways Reservation Office (a small building close to the Sakura Tower). It takes around 8 hours. Before arriving you pass a large bridge on the Salween river and

Back in Time in Phoenix

What is it that makes desert cities at the same time impressive and small ? On one side they are the reminder of the strength of humanity against hostile elements. On the other, it is easy to have a full view on them from top. Desert cities always look beautiful at night. Looking at the gleaming skyscrapers contrasting with the obscure desert, with a large mountain range behind, it is difficult to not be taken with emotions. Thinking of all that needed to be done to build a city here. Phoenix is an ideal stop on your American road trip,

Visit Taungdwingyi

Getting up of my bed at 5 am, the road was empty when we left Nay Pyi Taw to Taungdwingyi. The few vehicles I saw were mostly trucks and motorbikes, almost no cars. Not a lot of options to eat breakfast, I had an instant coffee in a bamboo shack on the side of the road. 2 hours later we were arrived. Located in Magway region, Taungdwingyi does not receive many visitors. Due to the mediocre quality of the few local hotels, I advise to visit the town as a break on the way to Bagan or Yenangyaung. Wooden cards

THE ITALIAN SWORD IN THE STONE

The amazing legend of King Arthur and the sword in the stone is probably one of the most evocative myths of the past. The beauty of England, its enchanted coast and green meadows and pasture, have gifted an incredible story. However, few know that there is kind of a second sword in the stone and it is located in the beautiful hilly village of Chiusdino, in Tuscany. To admire the Italian sword in the stone you have to go to Tuscany, precisely in the hermitage of Montesiepi, in the province of Siena. Nearby the beautiful Abbey of San Galgano, a

Ngapali, the Best Beach of Myanmar

Ngapali is the most famous beach destination in Myanmar. When arriving there, I quickly understood the reason. The landscaping is well-preserved: most hotels were not built right on the beach. It is just the good weather: comfortable enough to swim warm, but not stuffing. Most of the areas along the beach are empty. One can observes fishermen working in the traditional way. Their boats are fixed to the beach with rustic anchors. Hotels offer a good value for your money. However, you should not go there if you want animated evenings. Everything is quiet after 6 pm. If your idea

Wooden cards carried by horses are still used in the main streets of Taungdwingyi. These are not intended for tourists: the local habitants use them for their own needs. However, if you ask, you can negotiate a one hour tour against a small fee. It is amusing to cross a road intersection in a horse card with cars and motorbikes driving around. The city center is quite laid back. You find everywhere shops selling phone call cards, as is common in developing countries. I found a nice bar to spend the evening. This one is on the main street, close to the mosque. Nobody really know addresses in a town like this, if you want to go there just show these pictures and ask around. The town has an elegant Sikh temple in beige color, with many columns. Sadly I could not see the mosque closely as the whole complex was closed due to Coronavirus restrictions.

To See in Metz

Metz is not very well-known to foreign visitors (though Georgia Tech students probably know it since this American University has a branch there). In the last years many parts of the historic center were rehabilitated for pedestrian use. Metz is now a vibrant city with an interesting architecture. This region of France is heavily influenced by Germany. Many of the French people over there have German family names. It is one of the only places in France where the state is allowed to directly finance some religions: when it was conquered back by France, the law of 1905 regarding the separation of the church and the state was not applied. 1) The Railway Station  One of the most beautiful in France. In the past, lots of French people hated it because it was built in 1905 when this region belonged to Germany. Nobody has these feelings anymore, and it was classified as a Historic Monument on 15 January 1975.  2) The Cathedral St Etienne de Metz This cathedral took a long time to be built, like many monuments of the same kind. It has the biggest vitrail surface of any cathedral in France.  3) The Place St-Louis  The history of the Place St-Louis comes from the middle-age. Despite being very far away from the Italian border, there is a lot of Italian influence on the architecture. 3) Centre Pompidou You may know the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and it has an annex in Metz. The quality of the expositions vary a lot, but even if museums are not your thing you should see the outside architecture. 4) Musée de la Cour d’Or Founded in 1839, the Musée de la Cour d’Or includes many historic elements: a Roman thermal complex, a granary from the gothic period, a convent and a chapel.

Going out for tapas is typical of Andalusia, but for people from Granada, tapas is an inescapable social custom, a way of living and feeling. Do not miss the opportunity to live this tasty tradition and get to know the city from another point of view. Granada bars compete to offer with each drink the tastiest, most original and abundant tapa. That’s why ordering a wine, a vermouth or a beer always has a prize in this city. Granada is a city to discover on foot, getting lost in its narrow streets and reaching every corner where, surely, we will find the best places with the most surprising tapas. A good place to start our tour is the Realejo neighborhood, the old Jewish quarter of the city. Around Campo del Príncipe there are terraces and bars where you can enjoy delicious tapas of ham, cheese, fried fish, tortillas or chips. La Esquinita is one of the bars that we cannot miss here, especially its delicacies of artichokes sautéed with squid and prawns. Around the cathedral we also find two areas where the bars are the protagonists: the Gran Vía and the streets near the Town Hall. Between Gran Vía de Colón and Plaza Nueva are some of the most popular bars in Granada, many of them located around Calle Elvira. This small artery in the center of the city is a true focus of attention for lovers of tapas. Its route ends at Plaza Nueva, the central axis of the old town, built on the vault that covers the Darro River. Sintra: The Magical Secret of Portugal

Sintra is the most famous visit to do from Lisbon, a charming old town that offers a spectacular menu made up of castles, palaces, churches and museums that have little to envy other European cities. Sintra is a town located in the Lisbon district, about 29 km from the Portuguese capital. The city was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1995. The town is situated in a humid mountainous area, reaching 500 meters in height.
